The landscape in Yorkshire & Durham is truly wonderful to behold, and we have put together a set of walks for you if you wish to go venturing and see for yourself on foot during your stay at Kip & Nook.
Easby Abbey
The impressive ruins of Easby Abbey lie in picturesque surroundings by the River Swale in North Yorkshire. Easby is one of the best preserved monasteries of the Premonstratensian 'white canons', with the magnificent refectory, gatehouse and canons' dormitory remaining. The parish church within the precinct, which is still in use, contains rare 13th century wall paintings.
Low Force Waterfall
Part of the River Tees in beautiful Upper Teesdale. Low Force tumbles over the Whin Sill, a layer of hard dolerite rock (known locally as whinstone). The Whin Sill formed 295 million years ago from molten rock, which cooled and solidified underground. Today, after millions of years of erosion it is exposed as rocky landscape features at Low Force, High Force and other places in Upper Teesdale.
Billy Bank Woods
This walk takes you along the banks of the River Swale and through rough pasture behind Round Howe. You'll see fields that are being managed for wild flowers and steep sided hills cloaked in ancient woodland with distant views of Richmond. There are plenty of places to sit on the riverbank for a picnic and you'll even be able to skim stones in places!
Aysgarth Falls
Perfectly situated to visit the superb waterfalls on the River Ure, the Aysgarth Falls National Park Visitor Centre Information Advisers can also point you in the direction of other lovely walks in the area taking in the surrounding woods or heading up to the lovely villages of Carperby or Aysgarth.
Richmond Falls
At Richmond in Swaledale the River Swale cascades down a series of rocky steps which are known as Richmond Falls.
